We've all heard someone say.. "i have a concept" ,"My concept is..." and so on but what exactly is a concept?Today,we want you to understand all about what exactly a concept is in interior design.
Having a concept is a very crucial part of interior design. What is a concept?why is it important/why do i need one?How do i develop a concept further when feeling stuck? How do i handle my concepts once a project is done?
What is a concept?
A concept is basically an idea. This idea form the basis of your design and this is developed further till it gets to the final product.
Why is having a concept important/why do i need one?
A concept allows you to look at the project very generally. What this does is that it enables you to identify potential problem areas and solve them or think about them before they become a hindrance to a brilliant idea you may have. The stage at which you have a concept is called the conceptual stage. This is the stage to listen to your client's ideas and sort of see how you can incorporate this into your design. Its the stage to sit down with your colleague and give your idea an honest critique in terms of what you can add or subtract.
How do i develop a concept further when feeling stuck?
I think all designers go through this and so how can you overcome it?What you need to do is get additional opinions on what you are doing. You want to listen to what other colleagues have to say then sort of pick one direction, eliminating the other directions with logic.Once you start following one direction you will notice your mind open up.
How do i handle my concepts once a project is done?
So ,you were blessed enough and your concept went through and the project was completed now what?
Your concepts are like books you've written with experience. The best thing to do is to take them and properly store them ,they may inspire your next project.
