To wrap up the small space series,we decided to cover the issue on budget. Its such a challenge to achieve ideal space quality for a small space, right? Now that we've already shared the tips on how to achieve this with you how about the finances? How do you ensure that your savings allow you to achieve the kind of space you desire. We have come up with tips on how this can be achieved and the good news is,its pretty simple.
1.Old rather than new
The first trick in the game is to source for already used items instead of getting new ones. This will save you a lot of money as these items will cost less than what you would have spent getting a new one. You can shop around in thrift stores or second hand dealers and get really good quality items. Then you can personalize this items to fit your taste, for example change the nobs, repaint an item or even reupholster it to suite your needs
2.Take up DIY tasks
Every single person has a creative side to them, you just need to be willing to explore and ignore perfection.Simple DIY tasks will save you a lot of money. For example,a new cute basket that can hold socks will cost you more than recycling an old shoe box and recreating it to a basket. This small elements that bring a space together can almost always be solved with simple DIY tasks.
3. Talk to your landlord to help you out
By this we mean, have the Landlord paint the walls to your preferred color before you move in,or the cupboards in the Kitchen or wardrobes.Insist on quality fittings before moving in,for example have broken tiles fixed to your preferred taste before you move in.However,if you are already living in the space, this could still work.Come up with a budget and identify the specific things you need changed in your space then convince your landlord on how having this elements improved will help him or her in the long run.
4. Grow slowly
This is especially to the first time renters or if its your first time living alone. Be patient with yourself and understand that acquisition of elements will take time. Buy one item at a time. It is also important to not to go for quality rather than quantity because there's no point in buying five same items that keep on getting damaged again and again, you would rather get one quality item that will serve you a long time to come.
5. Be a disciplined saver
The trick to acquisition of items is planning for them and how do you plan for them ?by saving up for them.Moving in to a new space or revamping your space doesn't mean that you should turn your life around and struggle to survive, instead come up with a reasonable budget and see what you will cut down to achieve this then set aside this money inorder to acquire the item you wish to purchase.
6. Be on the lookout for sales
Sales save you quite some money. The good is that the are normally advertised quite alot before their happening. Be on the lookout for this and take advantage of them by getting yourself very discounted items. However, be very careful not to get damaged goods or counterfeit products.
7. Do not buy what you can not afford
This should be top of your list!Do not get into debt by buying something way above what you cannot afford instead save for it,if its way too out of reach then ask yourself what alternative can you get instead of this item.Getting into debt will only stress you out and you will not be able to enjoy the item as mush as you will if you know you have zero debt on it.
8.Invest in bigger pieces rather than decor items
To be very honest decor items at the store section are very attractive but spending tones of money on a decor item that you will change out in a few months does not make economic sense.Invest in objects that you intend to have for a longer time. However, this does not mean you get yourself cheap decor items because they wont last that long,do get quality items but make sure its worth every coin you spend on it.
9.Have a plan
Nothing works well unless you have a plan.Know exactly what type of mood you want to set and do consult the right professionals, know how you will finance it and most of all know the time you intend to have it until you decide to change it.Having a pla will make it easier for you to budget so that you know how to distribute your money. It will also prevent you from buying items you do not need and consulting the right people will give you the best out of each item.
