WORKING WITH PATTERN-IN SMALL SPACES!

Updated: Mar 13, 2022

Patterns are beautiful and allow people to express their artistic side. However, they can be really tricky to work with in small spaces;they can either elevate your space or make it look like a big pile of clutter. We have come up with tips that work and that guarantee you success while using patterns for your small space.

1.Pick one pattern main pattern then abstract it in your space

Choose one pattern that you really like and this becomes the base for the composition. By abstracting,we mean work with the color template in this pattern and use it to lay foundation in the design of your space;use it in major elements of your space such as wall, floor or ceiling color or maybe a pattern, say triangles, pick out triangular shaped decor elements or a rag. There are so many ways of abstracting (post will be up soon)

This pattern is from an fabric we picked from pinterest. This was the main pattern inspiration,we picked out its colors and shapes.

The wall color, pillow color, mirror and decor shapes bare an abstract of the pattern above

2.Pick two other complimentary pattern and do not abstract it.

After selecting your base pattern, now select another pattern that compliments this pattern but this time use it as it is. DO NOT ABSTRACT IT.This allows you to throw this pattern in limited bits of course within the space.

The pattern on the curtain and that of the baskets on the wall are the two additional patterns

3.Let your color scheme be within the major patterns color scheme.

It may be tempting but do not allow yourself to pick color out of the scheme of the first pattern. This will give it some sort of order and harmonizes the composition. This ties it all together but still allows the eye to pick out the pattern that s dominant.

4.Make the other complimentary patterns stand out.

The whole point of adding these other patterns and not abstracting them is to allow it to stand out. Choose placement of these patterns carefully so that they are placed where one can easily pick them out at first glance.

The curtain and wall hangings create additional focal points in the room allowing them to stand out.
